Respectful First Graders

On Wednesday, we had some special visitors come to Pineview to discuss how to be respectful CADETS.  The IFA boys basketball team came and discussed ways we can be respectful and also demonstrated respectful behavior through a skit they did during our Character Counts assembly.  Next month our focus is CARING from the Character Counts Pillars.

Daily Five Stations

Students enjoyed practicing their reading and writing skills during our Daily Five stations.  The Daily Five stations are Read to Self, Read to Someone, Writing, Word Work, and Listen to Reading.  The students go the various staions through out the morning while I work with students in small groups (Guided Reading) focusing on their specific skill level for reading and writing.  The favoite Daily Five stations are using the Smart Board for Word Work and Listening to Reading on http://www.storylineonline.net/.  The Daily Five is a wonderful program where students are able to work independently or together with other students practicing their reading and writing.  Ask you child what their favorite Daily Five station is in our classroom!

Just a few reminders!

If you haven't already, please return the fundraiser packet to school.  We had several turned in on Thursday and each student got their own silly band.  Thank you for doing your part with our fundraiser.
I also wanted to remind you that we get out early on Tuesday, October 19 at 2:05 for Parent/Teacher Conferences.  I enjoyed sharing with the parents on last Thursday how well their son or daughter is doing in school.  From the sounds of it everyone is very excited about school and learning!  That is always my goal to have them excited about learning so they want to learn and CONTINUE to learn.  Thank you to all the parents for taking time to meet with me on Thurday and I look forward to discussing with my other parents on Tuesday how well their child is doing in our classroom!

Mealworms arrive in First Grade!

Today the first graders observed and learned about mealworms.  We had a chance to observe our mealworms and write down three facts of a mealworm.  Make sure they share with you their sheet entitled NEWSFLASH that shared our facts about mealworms that was sent home today!  We had some very ACTIVE mealworms and the students did a nice job of taking care of them.
